Let’s Create at the Lake! An exploration of Andy Goldsworthy and landscape art at White Rock Lake
Ages 8-12
Are you wild about art and nature? Have you ever painted a rock, collected leaves or sticks and made something beautiful from them? If so, you will have a blast in this nature-inspired art workshop taught by local artist and educator, Jennifer Christy. We will meet at Makers Connect to gather your supplies and meet your teacher. Then you will join your class on a short walk to White Rock Lake. Once there, you will learn about the beautiful art of Andy Goldsworthy, and get to create your own nature art installation at the lake! You will also learn how to photograph your work, and write poetry inspired by your creation. At the end of the workshop, we will head back to the Makers Connect studio where you will frame your art photograph and your poem.
Supplies will be provided.

Using a found hub cap as your ‘canvas’ you will make an eco-friendly work of art suitable to hang in your home or garden.
Sharon will provide an overview and share painting techniques and ideas from her 12 years of creating art from roadside trash!
All materials will be provided, including a cleaned and prepped hub cap, acrylic paints, brushes and a variety of fun materials to embellish your creation.
No artistic ability is needed. The hub cap already has a pattern and all you need to do is start painting a color and let your imagination soar!

We are thrilled to welcome a wonderful new teacher with impressive qualifications. Jessica has designed jewelry for locally-based jewelry company, Barse; also she has led a wide variety of jewelry classes at a bead store in Carrollton for the last few years.
This project is so cool – seen on the arms of celebs and cool kids all over the place. The magic is in the technique of alcohol dyes on metal. You’ll learn about these dyes as well as how to tie the incredibly useful slide knots that allow this to be worn by anyone, from petite women to large men. We’ll also have several sets of letter and figural stamps to use (stars, hearts, owl, arrows) to use if you prefer to make one or two pieces without color. We’ll show you how to use stamps, stamp pads and hammers.

Folks have been asking for a Crochet class, so we responded! Patti has been making stuffed plushies and crocheted cats, dogs, and other critters for a number of years… even custom critters that look like client’s own cats and dogs. (You might also know her from her catnip snakes, which are a major hit in our shop!)
Bring your own yarn and hook. The package of the yarn will have the crochet hook size listed that works best for the yarn. Patti will go over the basics of how to hold the hook, the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch which are the basic stitches of a scarf or potholder etc . In this class, you will create one to two pair of cheeky brass drop earrings, using stamping and wire wrapping techniques. Using freely available web-based photo-editing software, Robin will lead us through tips and tricks to improve your images, be they for use on your Etsy, Facebook, webpage, or portfolio.

The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.
Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being.
With the Zentangle Method, anyone can create beautiful images from repetitive patterns. And even though it calls for a specified series of steps, it leads to creative expression that transcends its own rules. You can use the Zentangle approach as a tool to deliberately focus your thoughts.
In Beginning Zentangle, you will learn a minimum of nine Zentangle patterns by completing two Zentangle tiles. You will receive a beginners Zentangle drawing kit and step-out instructions for 16 patterns which you may use to take home and practice!
Ready to learn more tangles? In Zen 2, you will complete this darling heart project and learn twelve tangles in the process! NOT NECESSARY To have taken Zen 1!!

Learn the stained glass soldering method with Pamela Reid, who’s worked for years with renowned glass retailer Kittrell-Riffkind Gallery. In this class, you will create simple square pendants or charms using thin cut glass slides and squares. Then you will be lead through wrapping the edges with copper foil and applying solder, loops, and finally,extra bling! Come to the class with ideas and any images and flat textures (paper, lace, foil, glitter) that you’ll like to incorporate into your pieces. Most people have time to complete two pieces.
