Silk Scarf Painting with Valery Guignon
$65.00

vg-painted-scarf-2

Ever want to try painting on silk satin? Well, Valery does it for a living and has all the materials. She can guide you while you have time to do your own experiment in silk painting.

First we will experiment on scraps of silk. You’ll find colors you want to work with and shapes and “textures” you want to develop into a design. You’ll learn how the dye runs and how adding water
blends colors. I’ll teach about Guta – a quick drying resist – that will keep the liquid dyes in spaces rather than blend with the other colors and simple candle wax melted into the silk to resist the liquid dye. I’ll show how easy it is to set these dyes with a hot Iron.

You will purchase a hemmed silk satin scarf from me at cost. On a board you will lay scarf out.  After you choose your colors and brushes there’s nothing to do but start. We cant wait to see what you come up with! Expect surprises.

Instructor will supply poster board, pins, brushes, newspaper, palates, guta, blow dryer, markers, sponges, iron, wax, fabric dye crayons.

Students can bring their own natural fiber scarves, light weight natural fiber fabrics, dyes, acrylic paint, design ideas, apron, dish washing gloves (dyes dye all natural fiber i.e. hands) rags to sop up spills,
scissors,

Contact us with questions – like – how do I tell if a scarf is natural fiber or synthetic?

(Materials fee of $25 is included in cost of class and includes a white silk scarf)

Class fee $65.00

Wire Wrap Jewelry Tree
with Valery Guignon
Beginner level! $45
Wire wrap tree with jewelry

Bend and wrap different wires into a tree or dancing person or flower – any of your visions. I will show you tricks of wire bending and drawing with wire. As it takes shape we’ll wrap smaller wire in colors and then add another layer of wire with little tabs sticking out for your necklaces, bracelets and ear rings to hang from. Once you’re happy with it your can hang it on the wall with small nails and loaded with your treasures.
The instructor, Valery Guignon, has taught this course and others all over the country. She is a graduate of Pratt in Industrial Design and has made her living creating art fibers (scarves, jackets, and more) and leading classes. Her dynamic energy will get you off and running on your own artistic journey!

Suggested Materials List
Students bring pliers and metal cutters if they have some. Apron. Gloves if they need hand protection. And objects they may want to weave into the hanger.
Anything you want to weave into your sculpture (beads, bits of drift wood, feathers, funky mesh – use your imagination.) Teacher will bring rebar wire and supplies as well.

**  POLICIES:   More info you need to read and know before signing up….
Please be sure to prepay up to two days before the class is scheduled to ensure that the class ‘makes.’ We ‘call’ the class at 24 hours prior to start time.  In most cases the classes will require a minimum of two participants in order to go forward.  (However, a few workshops are formatted more loosely as ‘make and takes’ or won’t have attendance minimums.)  Please read more about classes before signing up at the bottom of the page…but also,

If you signed up and paid and the class you wanted doesn’t make, we’ll let you know via email and allow for reschedule for the same or another class.  (if there’s no desired class, repayment will be made in the same form as originally paid.)  If the class you later take costs more, payment for the difference will be due.

Should you need to cancel or reschedule a class at Makers Connect, we require 36 hours notice.  A full refund will be issued or you may request a Class Credit to be used toward another class we offer.  If a cancellation is received less than 72 hours prior to the class, no refund or Class Credit will be issued.  This allows the teachers to be fully prepared for the correct number of students and to allow for time to fill the slot in classes that often have a waiting list.

Also, please don’t assume we’ll have space for a friend on the day of class – though we love the enthusiastic sharing of information, there are many classes that require specific tools that we might simply not have enough of and we don’t wish to disappoint.  Just call or email ahead and see if we can accommodate your friends!Save
